Simile
The world often throws metaphors, similes, analogies, and other language cues out to us in its own effortless manner, all we have to do is be alert to the throw and the camera becomes a great catcher’s mitt. Since baseball season has just begun perhaps that is an apt metaphor.
The simile here, was breathtaking in its simplicity even at 60 miles an hour. I got it in a blink. The cloud of cherry blossoms and the oncoming layers of mist and cloud rolling down from the cold reaches of the hills beyond, into the warmth of the valley.
ONCE MORE AROUND THE SUN 
Your reference to the smiles that the world throws out reminds me that you are in – or more or less in – Jean Giono country. One of his novels is titled, “The Song of the World”. The world gives us songs and smiles most of the time.

Thank you for following the blog. I appreciate it and the Giorno reference. I love his writing and have for a long time. But I was referring to SIMILE, not smile, because the cloud of blossoms and the approaching clouds seemed to me a photographic simile. Of course it made me smile! as did your comment.

Just had to say how much I have been enjoying your 365. I did one a couple of years ago, with the rule of ‘every day something experimental’. Sometimes I repeated the same mistake several times before I realised it didn’t work! Apart from here what do you do with the images you show us? I made a book of one image from each month, but you have so many evocative images, I wonder what happens to them afterwards?

Dear Stefan, Thanks for your comment. Who knows what the accumulated experience will amount to? One of the joys of this medium is the unexpected discoveries so I’ll just go along for the ride and watch the year unfold. Actually I have seen it all, but briefly, since this was done more than a year ago, but I had some big retrospective shows and a couple of books already in progress, so this year is unfolding now in a public way with an opportunity to comment on what it all provokes me to think about. After this, with any luck, I may be able to publish it since I have some good publishers behind me. I’ll see if any of them want to make 12 books in a slipcase so the year has its more manageable form. My best, Joel
