Timeless

To stand in the shadows, looking out into the light, is like a child’s game of thinking that the treasure is down there, just past the sunlight, around that bend. But the treasure is to be standing still, in the quiet cool at the end of a June day, and drinking in the sweetness of it, the silence, the timelessness that it suggests. And then raising the camera to affirm the sensation of contentment that overcame me.

I’ve been a silent reader of your journey for a while and after reading this post I wanted to publicly thank you for sharing not only your wonderful images but the poetry and feelings that you felt at the time you made the image. I struggle with writing my feeling along with my images and I have made it a goal for myself to do better. I to am sitting in the quiet still of the end of the day in June listening to the kids sing and play “drinking in the sweetness of it”.

      Scott,
Thanks for reading and sharing. Too often photography is considered to be about the end result, and I remember my self feeling that way, but as I get older I have realized that the first moment of recognition is the ‘wake up’ moment, and that delicate intake of breath that comes with the surprise of it, just before the click of the shutter, is what I live for.
